The Japanese word for pottery, also known as earthenware. It differs from porcelain in that the primary raw material is absorbent clay. It has a porous and opaque body, with glaze.
A slightly rough surface, which conjures a warm, rustic feeling, but one of the faults of them, is capable of cracking and breaking easily. This term is also often used as a general term for both pottery and porcelain in Japanese.
